Do you know what your core values are? I was listening to the Alpha Hippie podcast on my way to work this morning, and he’s doing a series on a course that he has called “Masculine Mastery.” This episode was about core values. He talks about the importance of knowing what your values are, and how once you know these core values you can begin to make decisions and change your actions based upon those core values.

Every once in a while this podcast will hit me with a nugget that really sends me down a path to clarity on something that I’ve been thinking a lot about. This episode was one of those times. When I got to work I immediately started googling “how to determine your core values.” I came across this great little exercises that I printed out and walked myself through during my lunch break. Here is a link to the exercise. Basically what you do is write down a giant list of values that you think apply to you or that you think are important. Then you group all of those into five different columns, putting similar words into columns with each other.  Once you have your five columns grouped, you choose one word out of each column that represents you best out of those words. Once you do that you have five words left or “core values.” It might be beneficial to go through this exercise several times to see what you come up with, but what I’ve come up with today are these 5 words: affect, fun, family, passion, and empathy. I think the next step is to look at all areas of your life and try to pluck out the things that do not have any of these qualities shining through and figure out how to get rid of them. I imagine that this can sometimes be a pretty difficult thing to do, but I’m looking forward to seeing the results.

Strength

A1

  • 3 x 8 Deadlift

A2

  • 3 x 12 Overhead Press

B1

  • 3 x 12 Dumbbell Rows

B2

  • 3 x 20 Glute Bridges

I’m really loving this routine, and feel like I am going to get a lot out of it. Hopefully some good gainz! I worked up to 185 on the deadlift, and I was able to press 45 lbs for two sets at 12 reps. Seriously, one month ago I could not even get the bar off my shoulders. So this is a huge milestone. On the dumbbell rows I worked up to a 45 lb dumbbell and did 80 lbs on the glute bridges. That’s all for today!
