I want you to enjoy it.

I really think that you should.

It can be difficult, I know, but you owe it to yourself, as well as the people around you.

Relaxing can be one of the hardest things to enjoy. I have spent days on the couch, which have been more exhausting than manual labor. The reason for this is my inability to shut my brain off from what I “should” or “could” be doing.

I watch my wife, Amanda. She is one of the hardest working people I know. She has her “stuff” together in every possible way. So together, in fact, that she will not set it down for a moment and relax. She is pre-programmed for staying busy, so relaxing is time spent withering in guilt….over relaxing. The idea of just kicking back and watching some Netflix without a load of laundry or a vacuum in sight is simply out of reason. Relaxation feels like some sort of sin, and if she catches herself doing it, then it will make her a bad person. She wants to, but just can’t bring herself to enjoy it.

I understand this because I am guilty of the same. We watch others stay busy, no one wants to be classified as lazy, and we all have busy lives. However, it seems like a lot of us are so busy staying busy that we forget to enjoy the life and the good things afforded to us. Sleep is disregarded and leisure is sin…which are two of the things that make life the most pleasurable. Not to mention becoming too busy to eat good food, which is just another self-mutilating tactic to make sure that we all perpetually feel like crap.

Everyone deserves to enjoy themselves. Fully-present and proud. Sit back and enjoy everything that life has given to you.

I am not saying that we should do this until they foreclose on our home and our vehicle is repossessed, but what I am saying is that if you have some time to yourself…..be fully present, aware, and appreciative of all that you have. Be cognizant of the thoughts that try to keep you from relaxing, and inventory where those originated. Know that being good to yourself is beneficial to you and those around you.

Take a break.

Relax.

Fully relax.

Be proud of the life that you have built.

Don’t be so hard on yourself…it’s exhausting.
