“The bride was glowing at their wedding.”

“He was glowing after he won the game.”

“The parents were glowing at the birth of their child.”

I never understood what it meant to glow until my lights went out.

I now have a better understanding of what it looks like to shine. I have seen enough souls lost and found to know what it looks like to lose your light and find it again.

When you lose your glow, the ones who care for you can see it clearly. It was hard for me to understand how my mom could know I was empty and alone when I had a smile on my face. I can fake a laugh, a cry, an interested tone; I can’t fake a glow.

Recently, I got the news that one of the brightest souls I know had decided to go back to his old ways. His glow had started to fade and he thought it best to try and stoke the fire with the bottle. It will work, as it often does, in the short-term…until the lights go out again.

I hope he finds his glow and I hope that you appreciate yours. The monotony of the day-to-day can cause us to lack appreciation for our spirit and take for granted that we have a light at all. But, when the lights go out and the glow has gone away, there is no place as dark and no situation more lonely than a life without a glow.

Glow brightly.
