The last couple of years have easily been the most fulfilling and rewarding of my life. Along with this newfound joy has come an absolute lack of direction. I never dreamed that I would be able to function basically on a positive attitude and faith alone, but for now it seems to be working.

My goals have changed. My wants and needs are different than they use to be. I am constantly striving, but not towards particular, measurable achievements, but more towards an overall place in life. It works for me, but I cannot say it will work forever. Here are a list of my goals for 2017.

Deadlift as much weight as I can, and be grateful for the friends around me who enjoy being physically active.

Run some long trail races with beautiful scenery, and be grateful that I have the use of my legs.

Squat as heavy as I can without calling myself a failure, or being upset because I can’t squat as much as the guy next to me.

Diet to the extend that I am cautious of what I put in my body, and be aware that what I eat will greatly affect my energy, my mood, and the way in which I interact with the people around me.

Lose weight to the point of feeling a little better about myself, but not obsess about the body that I will never have. How many places will I really be seen without a shirt on?

Write so often and with so much passion that I don’t hate myself for posting, up until the point that someone emails, texts, or calls me to tell me that they took something from my blog. Don’t rely on the outside world to handle an inside job.

Podcast and continue to meet amazing people, while forming relationships and having fun. Appreciate that I truly have a unique opportunity to connect with great people at different stages of their lives.

Work in a way that I demonstrate how appreciative that I am to be employed, and to have customers who both rely on me, and place their trust in me to do the best job that I can.

Believe me, I understand and agree with you. Quantifiable goals are important, and I also have those. I have specific weights I would like to lift, pounds I would like to lose, times I would like to run, people I would like to reach, and money I would like to earn, but I am also going to be conscious of achieving happiness between now and achieving these specific goals. Achieving my goals will provide happiness, but I plan to be happy while I achieve my goals.

In a time in my life where I have almost zero direction in my life, but a sincere zest for continuing to go wherever I am going, I have been given much advice. Being a guy with almost zero attention span, I cannot absorb a great deal of advice at one time. I have, however, paid attention to the one regularity which has been uniform in every person who has extended a degree of encouragement. I have spoken with some of the wisest, smartest, loving, experienced, and successful people around, and they all have the same advice. Between family, friends, coaches, scholars, mentors, and businessmen, there is one solid piece of advice which continues to be repeated like a mantra. The directions are clear, consistent, and easy to follow. The instructions are…..

Whatever you are doing, wherever you are going, whatever it is that you are trying to achieve, my best and only advice is just this….

continue.

Whatever wall you run into, whatever tries to derail you, whenever you seem most confused….

continue.

If the pressure builds up enough, we are bound to pop out on the other side.

2017 is going to be a great year.

Peace, Love, and all things Beef related,

Beefcake

My name is Wilson Horrell, aka “Beefcake”.  I’m a junkie turned sober that found CrossFit, running, and community to be my new addiction. I have no education or experience as a writer, and almost zero knowledge of grammar. I love sitting in front of a computer and spitting it out on paper as it goes through my brain. I hope you enjoy reading, and feel free to reach out or comment at anytime!
