Waddle.

Waddle.

Walk.

Walk.

Waddle.

Waddle.

I was awakened from my Widespread Panic induced earbud trance by the sound of a 4-wheeler coming up behind me. I stop and look around, and was surprised to see my neighbor rolling up beside me and handing me a bottle of water.

“What a nice gesture!”, I thought.

“But, I really don’t need it…”, was the second thing that went through my head. However, I took the water, told him “Thank you” and went about my way.

Less than 300 yards away was a hill. It is a pretty big hill and the weather was pretty hot. By the time I reached the top of the hill, I was struggling. I sure was glad to have a bottle of water. I was suddenly so thirsty that I wasn’t sure what I would have done without the bottle of water.

Either way, it didn’t make any difference, I had my water and my neighbor had the satisfaction of doing a very kind, thoughtful, and much-appreciated gesture.

It seems as if sometimes the best opportunity I have to be helpful is to accept the help that I am offered.
