Something we will improve upon

Slow down! This week has turned out to be a very busy one. It started with four days of Vacation to Pensacola Beach on Saturday, then back to work and my wife went out of town. It’s been fun, but I need to do better at slowing down and enjoying the moments. Especially the ones with my family. Life seems to be going by way too fast.

Source of motivation

My wife is awesome. Since she’s out of town, I got to pick the kids up from school yesterday, do all the dinner stuff, practice basketball, etc. Then I got to take them to school this morning. Boy howdy! I thought I was going to lose my mind this morning. I don’t know how she manages to keep us all together and functioning. It truly is motivating. It was also our 16 year anniversary this past Friday!

Weekly Training Progress & Goals

Zero progress this week. Since we were on vacation, I didn’t do any kind of training at all. Just hung out with the wife and kids. That’s ok, I’ll be back on track next week when things get back to normal, then I’ll follow it up with another weekend of awesomeness at the Walking Tall 50K!

Weekly Nutrition Progress & Goals

Nope. Vacation. I know it sounds like a cop out, but I don’t play around on vacation. I go all in. I like to say I’m going to hold the diet and exercise down while we’re gone, but I never do. I always have all the fun instead. Again, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. You have to enjoy life sometimes. A couple of days off isn’t going to kill you even though sometimes it feels like it might.

There’s something else I think I learned on vacation. If you’re going to eat something that’s not necessarily good for you, do it right. Don’t go off the rails eating something stupid. Here’s an example. At the hotel we stayed in Saturday night on the way to the beach, we had free breakfast when we got up. I have a thing for sausage/gravy and biscuits. I was really looking forward to eating them, and piled my plate full. The problem I found when I sat down was that the biscuits were just way too hard. What a bummer. I put the plate aside and opted for some bacon and eggs instead. I told my wife that if I’m going to go off the reservation, I’m not going to do it with some hard ass biscuits. I’ll wait until later and crush a cheeseburger instead. I’m sure there’s some sort of life lesson in there somewhere.

Life obstacle

Last week I told you I wanted to tell you a story about how I spent more time with my family. Well, I certainly did that. It was easy because we were on vacation, then my wife went out of town so I spent some alone time with the kids as well.

I don’t do well with change. Have you ever read Who Moved My Cheese? Check it out if not. I need to think about having a better attitude when things get changed or don’t go my way. Here’s a note from the book, “If You Do Not Change, You Can Become Extinct.” I’m going to reflect on that this week.

Life victory

Although this week has been a little slow for me, I’ve been doing really well on the social media and content side of LHRL. I’ve been consistently putting out Instagram stuff, blog posts, vlogs, etc. I really enjoy doing it, and have really gotten out of a stagnant funk I had been in for some time. Good stuff, I hope someone is enjoying it. 🙂

Something we are grateful for

Hopefully I don’t jinx it, but Fall seems to be here or at least the weather is getting a little cooler. The running is about to get much more enjoyable! I’m grateful that I have the ability to enjoy it.

Something we learned from podcast guest

This week we had Melisa Burgess on the podcast. We talked about recovery, and her journey in Fitness. I’m always so amazed and inspired by these kinds of stories. Mostly because I just can’t imagine what it’s like to be in their situation. Some people really get themselves into some bad situations. Every single time I hear one of these incredible stories I feel bad for ever thinking things aren’t working out for me. What if you were in jail? What if you really had nowhere to go or noone to go to? There really are so many things for us to be grateful for and so many positive things to focus on. Most of us don’t really know what “rock bottom” looks like.
