Something we will improve upon

This week I’m really going to improve my attitude. I’m going to work really hard to be positive and look for things for which to be grateful.

Source of motivation

Our LHRL community. I was asked to come pace someone at a 5 mile race this past weekend. One of the people in our group was looking to bust the 1 hour mark. She offered to pay my race fee if I’d come pace her and help her get across the finish line in under an hour. We made it in 56 minutes! That was super motivating for me. It just felt really good that I could directly see an impact from my actions. Super inspiring.

Weekly Training Progress & Goals

My main goal at this point is to train. Just show up to the gym every day and train. As it stands, I’m on week three of showing up every day (or at the least getting up and being active 5-6 days a week). For example, last week I got up on Thursday morning and went to the skate park for an early morning session. It’s not the gym, but I would say it’s the equivalent of a run or workout. So it counts. I’d like to do that at least once a week. It’s a lot of fun.

Weekly Nutrition Progress & Goals

Not great, not terrible. Focusing on being prepared for lunch and during the work day. There is a LOT of junk around my workplace and it’s very easy (and cheap) to order something for lunch that isn’t great for me and it’s even easier to hit the candy bowl that’s ALWAYS fully stocked. I’m getting a handle on it.

Life obstacle

Staying positive and appreciating all the great things around me. I’ve really had a problem with this for a while now. I just let negative thoughts pile up and take over. It doesn’t take long before I’m just beating myself up every day and always yammering on about why things aren’t going to work or why every outcome will probably be the most negative one. Training yourself to visualize a positive outcome is a very real thing, and I’m trying to work hard on that. What you put out there through your thoughts and actions has real consequences. Stay positive!

Life victory

I watched all 7 seasons of Game of Thrones. Just kidding, that’s a great accomplishment, but there are better things to do with your time. Yesterday after I got home from work I stopped what I was doing and took my youngest out for a walk around the block. It’s so much fun to do little things like that and spend time with them when they are little like that (she’s 5). I spend way too much time watching T.V. and movies instead of hanging out with my family.

Something we are grateful for

I am grateful for whatever this fitness thing I’ve been blessed with is. After not really training consistently for months, I was still able to run a 6:10 mile at the gym a couple weeks ago. That’s a pretty awesome feeling.

Something we learned from podcast guest

This past week we had my friend Rob Conner on the show. He’s such an awesome dude, and I always love talking to him. After the show we stood out in the driveway talking a little bit more and catching up. He got to talking about how it’s important to appreciate the things that you have and not constantly thinking and complaining about the things you don’t have. That really caught my ear and I’ve been thinking a lot about it since. If you really think about how amazing all the things you have around you are…it’s a lot of things. If you have a roof over your head, people that care about you, food to eat, etc. Man, you’re in a great spot. It’s weird that we can let things that we think we need overrun our thoughts and turn us into negative human beings. Again, stay positive and enjoy your loved ones and all the great things around you. Focus on making those relationships and things better vs. focusing on what you don’t have.
