I got drunk in Mexico and traded my watch for a pizza. It was late. I was hungry. The pizza guy needed a watch and the drunk guy needed a pizza. End of story.

To this day, I believe I got the better end of the deal. Sure, it was probably not the best long-term strategy and probably is not a decision I want to brag about in a job interview. However, it was a damn good pizza.

I have made a million decisions based on impulse and immediate gratification. I have chosen to ignore the long-term, more conservative approach that would have probably been the option suggested by a life coach or my mother. I have paid dearly on many occasions, but I have also bet on double zero and had it hit quite a few times as well.

Not all decisions have to be centered around what is perceived to be the long-term benefit. Sure, it’s easy to look back and inventory what choices could have played out differently if I would have made different decisions. Of course, it ‘s easier to see which option would have been better after I am down the road a bit. The fact of the matter is that there are buses and cancer cels which would argue that making decisions based on the “now” in exchange for the comfort and safety of the future might not be the best bet.

Immediate gratification is not always a bad thing and for all I know, it might be all the gratification that life’s hourglass allows us. Regret is something which is unique to humans and we spend a lot of time expressing our individuality. Not everything requires guilt, not every decision needs to be analyzed, and not every choice needs to be centered around the long game. In situations of old timepieces and hot pizza, sometimes its best to just start eating.

Have some fun today.

Enjoy yourself.

Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.
