If you watch any college football team in the country, upon kick-off you will see that every player on the kicking team (with maybe the exception of the kicker) will run the entire length of the field to wherever the ball is kicked. Even if a fair catch is signaled or the ball is kicked out of the end zone, the players will continue pursuit all the way to the football, sometimes even going so far as to gently touch the player who called the fair catch. This is a habit which is taught.

“Fly to the football.”

Be in constant pursuit of the action.

Always be looking to make the play.

Expect to make a difference on every down.

Every Friday, Von Ralls posts a “Roll call” in the Lift Heavy Run Long® Community. There will be literally hundreds of responses from people signaling where the action is. These are people who are trying to get in on the play. These are people in constant pursuit off the prize.

“What” these people are doing is not nearly as important as “That” they are doing it.

People run 5k’s, 50milers, 100milers, throw heavy objects, lift heavy weights and pedal things with wheels.  it doesn’t really make any difference what type of event they are participating in as much as I think it’s awesome that they are out being active and living life. One lady was getting to watch her son play in the State Championship football game for his hometown. How cool is that? I love that I get to be surrounded by people who are getting out and enjoying things.

The point is that all of these people are going to where the action is. All of these people are in essence flying to the football. And by being part of this community, I myself am getting into the habit of being where the action is.

I wasn’t born knowing that I should run to the ball on every play. I had to be taught how to get where the action is. I had to have teammates to help me believe that I had value and I needed people around me that I could convince that they had value too. As I grew into adulthood,  I thought that the importance of being around people who were trying to “Get in on the action” had run it’s course. I was wrong. My environment is more important to me know as it has ever been.

I am grateful to be a part of a group of people who believe in the importance of the relentless pursuit of trying to be a little better.

I don’t want to get back in the habit of surviving another Monday through Friday so that I can simply exist for another Saturday and Sunday.

Relentless pursuit of progress.
