“If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter.” –not sure

I am an over-thinker. I am an over everything-er. I write with too many letters, I think with too many thoughts, I speak with too many words.

Most of the words and thoughts that are existent in my life are unnecessary, but I tend to have the desire to explain myself. I want to cover all the bases. Either, I want to make sure that whatever I say pertains to every different possible way of looking at it, or I want to say it in a way that makes me, unquestionably, in-arguably….right.

The truth is, my life can be very much simplified with using fewer words, thoughts, sentences, and phrases. When I say, “No” to an invitation, I do not have to go into a long, drawn out explanation of why I cannot attend. A simple “No” will do. When I am asked if I know the answer to something, a simple “I don’t know” will suffice. I am not sure why I wish to go into a list of all of the things that I do know, except for I want you to now that I am not entirely ignorant. I think it is a mixture of insecurity and a lack of skills for being assertive at the appropriate times.

Anyways, the gentleman with whom I was discussing the referenced quote is an attorney. A big part of his job is shortening words and simplifying the content, so that he might transmit the information to his clients in digestible chunks. I made it clear to him that I have not the least bit of desire to acquire his knowledge of the law, but I care do care that he knows how to interpret it. The same goes for my mechanic. I don’t need to be told how my brakes work, but I need for them to work when I press the pedal.

Today I am going to focus on simplifying my life a bit. I don’t know is less is more, but I think that less can be easier.
