There is nothing that symbolizes accomplishment quite like that of a setting sun.

Scientists estimate that the probability of an individual being born is 400trillion-to-one. I’m not the smartest guy in the world, but those odds don’t sound real good. Yet, here we are.

On average, each of us has approximately 27,375 days to live. That is 27,375 sunrises, sunsets, and opportunities to foul it all up, do it all right, and do it all over again. We have 27,375 turns at bat, and none of those will bring about the same result. However, each day that I am fortunate enough to be rewarded a sunset, I know that I have really defeated the odds. I have done, at least, something right.

Life is hard. I feel like I should say that again….Life is really hard. But, we continue to amass days, and exist in a world that stacked the cards against us from the beginning.

An ancient philosopher, mathematician, and scholar, named Ferris Bueller, once said,

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

That sounds pretty cliche, I know, but things usually become cliche when there is truth inside of them. There are plenty of days when getting out of bed and carrying on with life outside the confines of my home is a real victory. Being aware, energetic, and optimistic is something to be appreciated and celebrated. I feel as if taking a moment and enjoying a sunset is a good reminder that I am a fortunate individual.

A sunset is a good reminder that although I have a tendency to make a mess of things, my existence alone is a gift. It’s a celebration. It’s a front row ticket to the exhibition that the other 3.99trillion do not get to attend. It is a golden ticket. It’s the big show.
