From Wikipedia:

In the context of sportstapering refers to the practice of reducing exercise in the days just before an important competition.[1] Tapering is customary in many endurance sports, such as themarathonathletics and swimming. For many athletes, a significant period of tapering is essential for optimal performance. The tapering period frequently lasts as much as a week or more.

It’s weird waking up and not going to the gym.  Especially since it’s just kind of embedded into my daily routine.  Get things ready at night, get up and go to the gym.  It’s kind of a strange feeling when I don’t have to do that during the week.  Anyway, I try to just enjoy not doing much training and try to resist eating pizza at least until the night before the race. 🙂

Yesterday morning I did go to the gym, but just did  Squats and Cleans.  The squats were just OK, and I missed a 295# 3 Rep Max PR.  I wasn’t upset about that because, for me, that’s a pretty big weight.  Squatting close to 300 for a triple is pretty badass in my book.  Didn’t matter that I missed that because I made up for it with the cleans.  Ten pound Power Clean PR at 215#.    The workout was:

EMOM 1 Power Clean; Start at 60% of 1RM and add 10 Pounds every minute

At first I thought I just worked up to 205 and missed 215, but as I was taking the weight off of the bar I realized that one of the plates I thought was 10# was actually 15#.  Bonus!  So I actually got 215# and missed the last 225# clean attempt.

Here’s what’s in store for the rest of the week:

Tonight:

15:30 x 8; spint:walk

Just a small amount of running tonight.  I’ll need to be in bed early because Wednesday morning:

FRAN!

21-15-9

  • Thrusters (95#)
  • Pull ups

Can’t wait to see how that one goes.  PR is 4:24 and that was tough to get.

Thursday

200m x 8; rest 90 sec

Friday

10 Minute Jog

Saturday

50K Race.  Kick Ass!  Should be a lot of fun.  I’ll have several friends there running so I know the environment should be fun.  I’ve had a couple of people tell me they are going to come out and yell at me so that will be very awesome.  Looking forward to a great race.
