The Fountain of Youth.

I ain’t lookin for it.

I don’t need it.

I don’t want it.

You can have it.

I think God did a pretty good job of constructing the hourglass and the timetable allowed. I had plenty of time to be young, I have plenty of time to be middle-aged, and there is plenty of time to grow old and die. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Sure, everything hurts when I get out of bed. Yes, I make old man noises every time I stand up. Of course, getting up off the ground involves a minimum of one curse word mumbled under my breath. But that is nothing compared to what I had to go through to get here.

With youth comes drama, indecision, uncertainty, envy, and a wanting for things that you believe will make you whole. Age and maturity bring about a sense of clarity which allows you to be certain there will be uncertainty, a willingness to cut through the crap and focus on what’s important, and the knowledge that material possessions or six-pack abs are not going to be what brings you true joy.

I believe the fountain of youth is within all of us. It is a matter of finding where our fountain is hidden.

The barbell is my divining rod. When loaded with weights it points me to where the endorphins originate and flow downward through the current of my vessels, mixing with the energy and adrenaline that has leached from those who surround me and cascades into my appendages. The supply is abundant and in this place, the life springs eternal.

There is a place we all can go to feel the things which we believe to have been left behind and we refer to as youth. There is an oasis within us where the joints don’t hurt, the regret doesn’t hinder, and the anxiety doesn’t rule. It’s a matter of finding that place which presents the challenge.

Find your fountain.
