photo (4)It has been a crazy few months, but I’m excited to be training and making plans for races in the near future.  Next up for me is the Mississippi Blues Marathon in Jackson, MS on January 11th.  After that I’ll be focusing on the Oauchita Trail 50 Miler in April.  I really would like to find a 50K in between those races so we will see how that goes.

Up until this week, training has been a bit sporadic.  I sat down this past Sunday, laid out my days over the next month and built in training time that I have to stick to.  You may or may not have heard this before, but I’ve heard a lot of people say that the best way to lose your fitness is to open a gym.  Well, they are correct.  If you don’t stay on top of it, training can get away from you fast.  It’s taken quite a bit of time for me to adjust to not having a regular job.  I really have to focus on getting things done and not screwing around.  Little things like sitting down and planning out days, turning off Facebook notifications on my phone and those types of things really seem to go a long way in helping me stay focused.

My training program right now looks a lot like the “Road to Regionals” programming.  In case you haven’t seen that program out there, it really is awesome!  I’m loving it.  I’m mixing in my running with this program and so far it is going very well.  If you’re interested in doing better in the Open this year, I highly recommend checking it out.  Not that I’m planning on going to Regionals at all, but it’s been pretty awesome to have a fresh new program that is a little different from what I have done in the past.  I am very anxious to see how it goes.  It has been very tough to fit a lot of running in now that pretty much all of my mornings are spent coaching.  So I am forcing myself to add one weekday of running and then at least one run on the weekend.  I’m shooting for two runs on the weekend, but I’m demanding at least one out of myself.

I’m also going to work really hard on updating this blog daily.  It helps me to put my training down and get all of my thoughts out of my head.  There may be some more CrossFit related posts, posts about coaching, posts about running a gym, etc. so stay tuned.  As always, let me know what kind of content you want to see and what questions you have about training.  That’s all for now.  Train hard!
